The liberalization of abortion calls into question the "golden rule", which is the principle that underlies all democracy: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you".

This prescription is the formulation for the principle of absolute respect which we owe to others. Any violation of this principle weakens the very foundation of democracy: The original equality among men is the equality of all with regard to the right to live. All other rights depend upon it.
